SINCE 1967

Jack Gibson opened this place with a triple-risen dough recipe and a belief that a great donut should speak for itself. Over 55 years later, nothing has changed — because nothing needed to.

1967

Jack Gibson Opens the Shop

On Mt. Moriah Road in East Memphis, Jack Gibson starts selling donuts made the right way — dough that rises three times before it ever sees a fryer. No shortcuts. No advertising. Just word of mouth and the smell of fresh dough.

The Triple-Rise Method

Most commercial donuts rise once. Gibson's dough rises three times — a slow, patient process that builds the flavor compounds and texture that make the difference between a donut and a great donut. It takes more time. It costs more. It's worth it.

11 PM

The Half-Price Tradition

Every night at 11 PM, everything goes half price. A dozen drops to $3. A half dozen to $1.50. It started as a way to move product before closing — it became a Memphis institution. The late-night line at Gibson's is its own cultural event.

Alton Brown Called It America's Best

When Food Network's Alton Brown named Gibson's Donuts one of the best in the United States, Memphians barely shrugged — they already knew. The shop has never run a single advertisement in over 55 years. It's never needed to.
